FCC Seeking to Provide Free Wireless Broadband

This would certainly disrupt the likes of AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon: if wireless were totally free, they'd lose a significant revenue stream.  I mean: how can they hope to compete with a zero-cost plan?  From the article:

The FCC is reportedly considering a plan to auction off more airwaves, this time with the stipulation that the winner would provide free broadband Internet access to the whole country.
