So long, Mac Guy, Justin Long

I confess: I get a kick out of the Apple ads; even those that border on the inaccurate.  However, I almost always wind up wanting to "smack the Mac" guy (Justin Long, of Dodgeball and Galaxy Quest).

    Turns out, I'm not alone:

Apple's "I'm a Mac" campaign is almost perfect: It's funny, memorable, and efficiently lays out the advantages of Macs over PCs. Its only defect: Virtually everyone who watches it comes away liking the "PC guy" while wanting to push the "Mac guy" under a bus.

Apple is preparing a new batch of ads with the same creative team sans Long:

Why was Long dropped, specifically? Perhaps for striking people as a "smug little twit," in the words of Seth Stevenson, ad critic for Slate.

Stevenson has praise for John Hodgman (PC):

"Even as he plays the chump in these Apple spots, his humor and likability are evident."

Geek is the new cool; that's for sure.
