As described in “I LOVE my Treo 700w - Part 1”, well the title speaks for itself. I'm still in love; so far my passion has not waned. Powered by Windows Mobile 5.0, the device rocks.
I am especially happy with a third-party program called PdaNet from http://junefabrics.com. This little gem allows me to use the device as a modem when I'm in a pinch for connectivity.
Back to the device. Some high points, thus far:
- Battery life has been exceptional (I bought a spare just in case). Trickle charges are recommended when you're near a cradle or an outlet.
- The speakerphone works well in quiet environments; I've not tested extensively in noisy environments (I tend to avoid them when working on a speakerphone or headset).
- The Bluetooth hands-free from Verizon has sufficient volume (I had to replace the first one as my voice was distorted, which appeared to be due to the microphone).
- The Verizon network is exceptional except at my house.
- The “Pardon me, is that Microsoft Office in your pocket?” campaign running at (Microsoft) campus is spot on; I can access documents, PowerPoints and spreadsheets while on-the-go. Microsoft Office on the device is incredibly handy.
- The SDCard slot is a Godsend; with this capability, I can view videos offline and transfer files between the phone (email attachments, for example) and my laptop with ease. In fact, the device is sufficient for me to travel without a laptop for short trips.
Some low points:
- I am currently troubleshooting an intermittent issue with placing or receiving calls; sometimes the folks at the other end cannot hear me (incoming or outgoing). Still in the early phases of this, but right now it appears to be specific to this device.
- I am currently troubleshooting an intermittent issue with synchronization starting via a timer (I have it set at 10 minutes at peak) and kicking me off an in-progress call. After early investigation, this may not be the casee and may instead be associated with 'holes' in my neighborhood.
