In case I need to reiterate: this is my blog. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My blog is my best friend .. wait. That's a bit much.
How about this: The opinions contained herein are mine, mine all mine. Microsoft is not putting me up to write anything here, much less about this EU nonsense. Ditto that Microsoft does not review or approve what I write, whether relating to the EU nonsense or not.
All that said: What in the bloody hell is going on in the EU? Where does Miss Kroes go off levying a two-million Euro daily fine for “non compliance”? I did appreciate our response, which boiled down to “read first, criticize later”. Granted, it probably wasn't in the best interests of continuing, what appears to be, a delightful relationship between our lawyers and the commission. It seems the EU is uncomfortable with the fact we make our income from our IP.
I think you just witnessed as close as I'll ever come to a rant.
InsideMicrosoft has a nice overview (and an even better set of responses than mine): “Neelie Kroes Goes Ballistic”.
BusinessWeek has some more detail: “EU Threatens Microsoft with Penalities”.
