There has been so much comment activity on the posts below, I just had to call attention to them again. There are some resourceful people out there who are keen to see that spammers get the attention they deserve. Thanks to all for the lively comments and research!
My posts were fairly short; rather quick observations of (then) current spam events. The real information is in the comments, and they're well worth reading through if you feel strongly about controlling spam.
