Okay; since I simply cannot be the only blogger who doesn’t comment on this Forbes Article, let me sum it up:
- Bloggers Bad
- Mainstream Media Good
On a few notes, as a blogger I agree.
- We must understand that while protected by the first amendment, we (and anyone who publishes) have a public trust and must respect that trust.
- We must behave responsibly, researching and corroborating sources (the word of other Bloggers and online media may not be reliable).
- We must behave. The “attack blogs” referenced in the article are not what blogging should be about, in my opinion.
Serious Bloggers (yes, I consider myself one), have a voice. If our voice matches a reader’s ears, we have an audience. If we don’t, we still have a blog. In our world, a world of online searches, we can quickly corroborate facts to keep the quality of our postings high. In this world of instant readership, we must behave responsibly and use the best judgment when selecting the stories to cover and comments we make.
